History of the school
Teacher Training College (Nauczycielskie Kolegium Języków Obcych) in Zamość was founded in 1990 under the supervision of the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin. At first, NKJO with its French and English departments was based in Szczebrzeska Street and used the facilities of Instytut Nauk Rolniczych in Zamość. Anna Sokołowska was the first Principal of the College.
In 1992 NKJO moved to a building at 5 Sienkiewicza Street, next to Primary School No. 7 in Zamość. The Polish department (Kolegium Nauczycielskie) was established in the same year under the supervision of Catholic University in Lublin (KUL).
In 1996 the College became the talk of the country thanks to Zygmunt Zamoyski, a teacher at the English department, who started Kampania Uczciwości Akademickiej (Campaign for Academic Honesty). It was later popularized by the mass media and triggered off a national debate on students’ honesty.
4 March 2010 was celebrated as the day of 20th anniversary of NKJO in Zamość. On that day the school started the third decade of its existence.
The College has gone a long way from a shared office, equipped only with a photocopier, a TV set, a VCR, two tape recorders and a few boxes of books in English to is an efficient educational institution with a well-equipped Internet and multimedia lab, projectors, a library which other schools can dream about and the staff consisting of experienced teachers.
